The Suits & Sawdust Process: Inquiry to Installation
A custom millwork or cabinetry project should feel exciting, not stressful. That’s why at Suits & Sawdust — a Cambridge, Ontario–based studio specializing in custom cabinetry, built-ins, and outdoor living — we’ve created a process that guides every client from first conversation to final installation with clarity and care.
1. The First Inquiry
It begins with a simple conversation. Whether you’re planning a custom kitchen in Kitchener, a media wall in Guelph, or a new fence in Stratford, we start by listening. Understanding your lifestyle and vision is the foundation for every project.
2. The Virtual Quote
Our team prepares a quick online estimate so you have realistic pricing for your cabinetry, millwork, or deck project upfront.
3. The Formal Quote
If you love the direction, we refine the details and provide a formal proposal. This includes scope of work, material options, and a breakdown of costs. No hidden fees, no guesswork — just a clear path forward.
4. Securing Your Spot
Once you’re ready to move ahead, a 50% deposit locks in your project on our production schedule. This deposit also allows us to begin ordering materials, reserving shop time, and planning for your installation.
5. On-Site Measurements + Selections
This is where things get exciting. Our team visits your home to take precise measurements and review design selections: hardware, stain samples, paint swatches, and finishes. This step ensures every detail is customized to your style and your space.
6. The Rendering Proposal
Before we build, we show you exactly what the finished piece will look like. Our rendering packages are designed to help you visualize your cabinetry, millwork, or deck in your actual space. We also use AI to generate a realistic render for you. Revisions can be made here to ensure everything feels perfect.

7. Approval & Production
Once renderings are finalized, we move into the workshop. Our team crafts each component with care, precision, and quality materials. This is the “sawdust” phase — where raw wood and design details come together.
8. Installation Day
For most projects, installation takes 1–2 days. Our team arrives on time, treats your home with respect, and ensures the finished product looks flawless. We clean up thoroughly, walk you through the final details, and hand over a space you’ll love for years.
We’re not your average contractor. We value your investment, respect your home, and believe in a process that’s just as intentional as the work itself. By the time we pack up our tools, our goal is simple: for you to feel the journey was seamless, stress-free, and worth every penny.
